NUS - Launch First Master of Landscape Architecture.

NUS Launches First Master of Landscape Architecture Programme, Supported by 24 Scholarships Worth $800,000.

Aspiring landscape architecture professionals can now look towards obtaining a Master degree in Landscape Architecture at the National University of Singapore (NUS). To support these professionals in their continuing education and training, the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA) will introduce a Landscape Industry Scholarship Programme, where 24 scholarships worth about $800,000 will be given out in the next three years.

The NUS Department of Architecture is launching a two-year Master degree programme this year, the first Master degree to be supported and endorsed by the Singapore Institute of Landscape Architects (SILA). It is also the first to be offered by a local university.

Students will be trained in architectural design, site planning, estate development, environmental restoration, town or urban planning and historic preservation, amongst others. Some of the key modules will emphasize tropical and urban conditions, sustainability and ecological conservation. More details here.

This is the major NCAA sports association student athletes are associated with. Awards are given in all sports categories, amounts from $3,000 to $12,500. Awards are also available for sports-related study (like sports journalism). Deadlines vary, as do the number of awards each year.

(20) National Alliance for Excellence Scholarships

The student competitors can be high school seniors or already in college. They must submit an application that can include recommendations (academics), art (slides), dance (tapes), photographs, or other materials that point to talent and achievement in all areas. (21) Harry S. Truman Scholarship

The is one of the most prestigious scholarships, shaped for students who intend to pursue a career targeted to public service or government. Graduate study should be a goal, with a portion of the funds directed there. You must be at least a junior, and your college must nominate you. A "nomination" package must be created. (22) National Association of Black Journalists

The NABJ offers 10 scholarships. It's a $2,500 award. Students should be attending a four-year university. They must present three letters of recommendation from a school adviser, dean, or a faculty member. Also, a 500-800 word article on a Black journalist must be presented. A grade point average of 3.0 is desirable. Eligible students must be majoring in journalism--print, photography, radio, or television. One of those should be a career goal. Deadline is March 31. (24) Arts Recognition and Talent Search Awards

These awards are granted to high school or college students (17, 18 years of age) who show talent in dance, voice, music, art, photography, jazz, visual arts, writing, or other creative areas. You must audition or submit a portfolio or tape. The award is to be used for freshman year in college. Awards from $100 to $3,000. Deadline is June 1, or April 1 (for registration in specific regions).

(25) Society of Women Engineer Scholarships

Other Scholarships for Foreign Students

English as a Foreign Language scholarships for Cubans
Amount: Full tuition fee waivers, accommodation, living expenses and flights to and from London for one month.
Eligibility: You must be a lecturer from the University of Havana Medical Schools.
Criteria: Scholarships are available for July or August 2008.

English as a Foreign Language (EFL) scholarships
Amount: Full tuition fee waivers for full-time English as a Foreign Language courses.
Eligibility: Open to you if you need English language training. Preference is given to you if you are from a country outside Western Europe. This is also open to asylum-seekers, refugees or Eastern European nationals currently living in the UK who need to improve their English language skills.
Criteria: Financial need.
Deadline: Open throughout the academic year.

Graduate Diploma in Architecture scholarship
This scholarship has been generously sponsored by the Tooley and Foster Partnership, one of the UK’s longest established architectural practices.
Amount: £2,000 per annum for two years, subject to satisfactory academic progress. If you are the selected student you will be given first refusal on a post in the Tooley and Foster Partnership practice. This will be in the summer at the end of your first year of the diploma and once you have graduated. There is no compulsion for you to take it up should you not wish to.
Eligibility: You must have been accepted for full-time study onto the Graduate Diploma in Architecture course and have confirmed with the Admissions Office that you have accepted their offer of a place.
Criteria: You will be evaluated based on your personal statement, aspirations in the field of architecture, academic excellence and engagement with the values and needs of the Tooley and Foster Partnership.
Application: You are required to submit an application package which consists of the following items:- a transcript of results from your first degree- one reference from your previous academic institution and one from your year out employer- a short statement (maximum 1000 words) setting out your general interest in the Graduate Diploma and your aspirations in the field of architecture, plus outlining your case for financial need.- a small A4 brochure (maximum 10 pages) showing examples of your design work, either from your first degree or from your year-out.
